DIMENSION SHIFT

FIRST PART ANIMATIONS

Speeds of objects relative to each other cause Image Objects to shorten or lengthen in the direction of the movement. This deformation that occurs in the Image Object is called Dimension Shift. Because it has an effect on our visual perception, Dimension Shift comes out as an important Relativity Effect.

The animation list has been arranged in a specific order. I suggest you stick to the order and, after reading the book first and getting informed about the topic, watch the animations here. Dimension Shift is a subtitle of the topic “Image and Source”.

SEEING EVENT

Before explaining the topic “Dimension Shift”, I would like to show you how “Seeing Event” occurs with the help of an animation. Electromagnetic waves reaching our eyes come from different objects and different distances. Assume that we are taking a photo with our eyes. This photo that we have taken is formed by electromagnetic waves that set out at different times but reach our eyes at the same time. The animation above describes this situation. Electromagnetic waves that set out from different places and at different times reach the observer at the same time and the observer perceives his surroundings with this electromagnetic wave pack that reach him and, consequently, the seeing event occurs. In the animation, the signals that accumulate on the circle, which is coming towards the observer’s eye, represent the electromagnetic wave pack that has been formed.

Any anomaly in the formation of the electromagnetic wave pack result in Dimension Shift because we see the information that the electromagnetic wave pack brings us. If the information that the pack brings include any anomaly, the Image Objects that we see will naturally include this anomaly within themselves. Movements of objects have an effect on the formation of the electromagnetic wave pack and they are the primary cause of anomalies. While an electromagnetic wave is being formed, the fact that the objects have dimensions and, in addition to this, that they are in motion lead to the formation of the pack and, as a result, Dimension Shift occurs.

THE CAUSE OF DIMENSION SHIFT AND ITS MATHEMATICS
I – OBJECTS MOVE AWAY FROM EACH OTHER

This animation is related to the part where Dimension Shift is discussed in the book.

As can be seen in the animation, when the right side of the ruler is at A, a signal sets out from this point. If the ruler was motionless, this signal would match the signal that would set out from the left side of the ruler when the left side of the ruler was at B. But, as the ruler in motion, it matched the signal that set out when the left side of the ruler was at C. We can assume that, a result of this match, an electromagnetic wave pack has formed. When this electromagnetic wave pack reaches the observer, the observer sees the Image Object of the ruler. If the ruler wasn't in motion, the observer would see the image of the ruler between A and B. However, the movement of the ruler has changed this and the observer sees the image of the ruler between A and C. Because of this situation, the observer sees the ruler, whose length is actually AB (Source Object), at the length of AC (Image Object).

Image Objects of objects that move away from each other shorten depending on the direction and the speed of the movement.

THE CAUSE OF DIMENSION SHIFT AND ITS MATHEMATICS
II – OBJECTS ARE APPROACHING EACH OTHER

The second animation here is the one created for the things discussed in the part where the mathematics of Dimension Shift is obtained in the book. The flow of events occurs in a similar way to the ones discussed above. You can read the explanations for the animation in the book as well.

The observer sees the ruler, whose length is AB (Source Object), at the lengths of AC (Image Object).

Image Objects of objects that approach each other lengthen depending on the movement direction and the speed of the movement.

HOW DOES DIMENSION SHIFT OCCUR WHEN THE OBSERVER IS MOTIONLESS?
In this animation, we see the formation of the electromagnetic wave pack in more detail. The circle, whose center is the eyes of the observer and which comes towards the observer at c speed, represents the electromagnetic wave pack.

The light-yellow dots on the car add their own signals to the circle when the circle passes over them. In this way, as the circle moves closer to the observer, a growing electromagnetic wave pack is formed. The small red cross symbols show where each signal is included in the pack. When the electromagnetic wave pack reaches the observer, the observer sees the image of the car thanks to the information that the pack brings him. Quite naturally, the observer will see whatever information the electromagnetic wave pack brings him.

We can see which information the electromagnetic wave pack brings to the observer here. These small red crosses give us this information. These crosses show where the signals that come to the observer set out. As the small yellow dots are placed in outer lines of the car, the locations of the red crosses determine the borders of the Image Object. The Image Object will be placed within these borders. As we can see, the fact that the car is in motion changes the distribution of the small red crosses and this change leads to the change in the size of the Image Object.

HOW DOES DIMENSION SHIFT OCCUR WHEN THE OBSERVER IS IN MOTION?
Here we see how Dimension Shift occurs in the case where the observer is in motion. According to the Galilean Relativity Principle, if two objects are in motion relative to each other, it does not matter which one is in motion and which one is motionless. The result obtained must be identical for both reference systems. This animation here and the previous one are based on the completely same logic. But I would like to draw your attention to the difference in the explanation.

The light-yellow dots leave their signals in the observer’s field when the circle passes over them. The red crosses show the points where the signals enter the field. Here we see that (c+v)(c-v) mathematics is at work. Please pay attention to that fact that the red crosses are carried in the direction of the movement by the field and that their locations do not change relative to the reference system of the observer. Pay attention to the movement of the circle as well; the circle does not only come towards the observer at c speed, but it is also carried in the direction of the observer’s movement from the center point. This is natural because the circle mainly represents the signals that move in the observer’s field and will reach the observer at the same moment. When the electromagnetic wave pack, i.e. the circle, reaches the observer, the Observer will see the Image Object on its own field and within the area whose borders are determined by the red crosses. The positions of the red crosses in the field gives us the Dimension Shift occurring on the Image Object.

As can be seen in the example, in cases when we need to think taking into account a reference frame that is in motion, if we include the Field Concept in the event, we can understand and explain how the event occurs more easily.
